How could a British actor Henry Cavill be cast as the all-time American superhero, Superman?

I am absolutely dumbfounded by Warner Bros decision to allow a reboot that allows a British actor take the lead role for the greatest superhero of all time, Superman, who has always been an AMERICAN ICON. This makes absolutely no sense to me and another thing, Cavill looks NOTHING like Christopher Reeves. WB is just throwing more money down the drain, and I have officially ended my watching of any new Superman movie projects with Superman Returns until such time WB can get the casting right. At least Routh had that classic Superman/Kryptonian male look, plus Routh was raised in the US Midwest which is exactly the environment Smallville called for! Warner Bros you're out of your frickin minds!
